THE MASTER OF THE FEMALE HALF-LENGTHS
Flemish
This painter gained his name from the more typical subject matter that he tended to paint, that of a female Saint or fashionable woman painted in an Interior from waist up. His paintings are usually on a small scale, very finely drawn with a sharp sense of line and on panel, which facilitated his refined drawing technique. There are many examples of his work in museums around the world and Friedländer held a large number of photographs of the painter in his archive. He mentions the painter in 'Early Netherlandish Painting, From van Eyck to Breugel'.
