Essay:
Born in Meulan in the mid 19th Century, Guillot concentrated on landscape painting depicting animals and life in the countryside around his locale. His idyllic landscapes offered a taste of idealised and peaceful country life that proved popular with his patrons. His debut at the Salon was in 1868 and he was a regular exhibitor. The Musée d'Art et d'Histoire Romain Rolland in Clamecy holds a fine collection of his landscapes.
