Francesco della Questa
1639 - 1723
A Still Life with Flowers in an Urn; two Birds lying on a Ledge
Essay:
Francesco della Questa was born in around 1639 and is thought to have been of Spanish origin, judging by his family name. He was apprenticed to the famous still life painter Giovanni Battista Ruoppulo and showed a prodigious aptitude for accurately depicting fruit, vegetables and flowers. Not surprisingly, he would later specialise in still life subjects, notably compositions of flowers and vegetables.
From 1666, della Questa is recorded as a member of the Academy in Naples and he was to become Director of that same institution between 1685-87.
