Jan van Oolen was born in 1651 and evidently was the brother of Adrian van Oolen. He specialised in painting compositions of exotic birds in landscape settings, much in the style of Melchior d'Hondecoeter. He is known to have executed other subjects as well, including landscapes and still-lives. His paintings are usually signed and are often large in format.
